Wisdom Spotlight - Issue #9 - Dealing with Illness and Death

Wisdom Spotlight

October 21 · Issue #9 · View online

A monthly spotlight on Dharma education and practice resources from Samye Institute.

Dear Student,
Phakchok Rinpoche, Tulku Migmar, the Druplas, and Samye instructors frequently receive questions from students about how to practice when experiencing difficult situations. We regularly hear requests about how to best help our family members or friends who are suffering or nearing the end of life. Many students also ask how best to practice with our own illness and prepare for dying. In these uncertain times of the global pandemic, we have received many questions about these topics.
We’d like to remind you that Samye Institute has a free student support program entitled Noble Living, Noble Caring, Noble Dying. The program is packed with resources including advice from Phakchok Rinpoche, guided meditations, and reading lists. We also feature three conversations between Tulku Migmar Tsering, Buddhist chaplain Tsunma Jamyang, and gerontologist Andrea Sherman
We can all benefit from watching these videos repeatedly and engaging in the exercises and meditations they suggest.
Important Note: The videos below were filmed prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, they do not discuss any issues directly related to infectious diseases. Please be sure to follow the regulations specific to your situation and follow the advice of your local health professional. And do keep in mind that all practices mentioned in the program will be equally effective if done remotely or by using video or voice messaging. Stay safe and well!
May all beings be free from suffering and the causes of suffering!
